Pimento Plantin’ and Pickin’
In the spring of 1941, a fellow from the Hill Brothers Cannery came to West Georgia trying to sell farmers on the idea of growing pimentos rather than cotton. He talked glowingly about how much less labor and how much more money we could expect with pimentos compared to cotton. If anybody was ever on the lookout for an easier, faster way to make a living, it was Uncle Will, and he decided right away to become a pimento magnate. Daddy wasn’t completely sold on the idea, though, and he stayed with cotton.
