Abstract
As long as I knew Uncle Will, he always had a healthy respect for the Almighty and a healthy disrespect for organized religion. Aunt Beth once told me that Uncle Will attended church regularly with her when they were courting, but that something happened through the years—she didn’t know what—to turn him against the hard-nosed, hell-fire-and-brimstone religion practiced in those parts. He still accompanied her to church now and then, but I think it was just to see if anything had changed since the last time he darkened the doors.
