“Willie made friends with the maitre d’ at one of the restaurants in town and asked about the habits of the well-to-do in Bar Harbor. The fella told him the real big-shots did their gamblin’ at the Yacht Club and said Willie didn’t have a chance of gettin’ in there. The initiation fee was somethin’ like five thousand dollars, with five-hundred-a-month dues. But he said there was a less exclusive yacht club over at Sand Point on the eastern bay. They had a five hundred dollar initiation fee and small dues, he thought, and some of the very wealthy went there to gamble when they were slummin’ or out sailin’ and had to pull into the Sand Point harbor for any reason.
