Will Larns Gamblin’ and Cheatin’

  • Harold Miles
Part of the Contemporary Literature book series (CONLIT)

Sometimes when Uncle Will got to talking, he’d hold to one subject for hours like he was replaying a tape of certain portions of his life, something that was indelibly inscribed moment-by-moment in his brain. When he told about leaving Meridian, I wanted very much to ask more questions, but I decided to wait and see if he’d continue the story or quit for the day. You never knew the outcome until he stood up and said, “Well, that’s enough for today.” Then you knew he was ready to go about his daily business and save the reminiscences for another time.
