Marketing and Structure—How Related to Group Action
Before we move directly into considering the “why” of agricultural cooperatives, let us review general economic activity and why it takes place. What are the objectives of the economic actors and how do they attempt to meet their objectives? Are the objectives of the decision makers who guide economic activity of firms in complete alignment with so-called public interest objectives? If the results of economic activity indicate a divergence between the goals and objectives of the decision makers and those which the public would prefer, what are the implications for public policy in general and policy regarding agricultural cooperatives in particular? Finally, what is marketing and how is it involved in all our deliberations?
