Applications of walking machines

  • Chapter
Walking Machines

Part of the book series: Chapman and Hall Advanced Industrial Technology Series ((AITS))

Abstract

The applications of walking machines can be divided into those for which legs are an alternative to other forms of locomotion and those for which they are essential. The former category includes many tasks currently considered suitable for wheeled, tracked or ground-effect vehicles (or even aircraft) but for which legs may offer advantages. These vehicles may have a human driver or may be mobile robots. The second group involves modelling legged animals.
