Developing a Memory “Thermometer”: A Theoretical Framework and Initial Results
It has been known for some time that memory disorders can accompany and even help define disease states; only relatively recently has medical science turned its attention to understanding the processes behind such disorders. The factors behind a growth of medical interest in memory disorders are many: aging of the general population, advances in our understanding of the neurochemistry of memory, and increased interest in diseases not easily diagnosed via computerized tomography scans. Furthermore, memory disorders are of interest to a wide variety of professional disciplines outside of neurology: family medicine, industrial medicine, clinical neuropsychology, and experimental psychology.
