The chapter by Dr. Olcese is very provocative. Building on a literature that suggests that magnetic field stimuli inhibit pineal production of melatonin in a variety of species, Olcese has gone a step further and has discovered a most important finding: light perception through the eyes is essential for this effect. Total darkness or enucleation abolishes the response. Even dim red light can restore it.
