Further Consequences of the Heuristic Nature of the Special Theory of Relativity
IN CHAPTER 3 WE EXAMINED the relationship that must exist between temporal and spatial coordinates as measured by different inertial observers. We also examined how such observers would compare their measurements of inertial mass. The Lorentz and the Einstein theories predict the same consequences because they make use of the same transformation equations for relating temporal and spatial coordinates for different inertial observers. Although the predictions of the two theories were the same, the interpretation of those predictions was different in each of the theories.
