The preceding chapters have amply demonstrated the use of WLS methodology in public health and public affairs and shown the flexibility of the approach. In this chapter we describe some advanced applications and discuss recent theoretical developments which extend the range of problems suitable for treatment in the WLS framework. We have ignored clinical trials and experimental design, as well as biopharmaceutical, bioassay, and related biophysical problems, unless they have direct relevance. The following sections highlight a number of interesting problems to which researchers have applied WLS methodology. Although we do not cite non-WLS literature pertinent to these applications, we certainly recognize that alternative analytic approaches exist.
