The term robot conjures up visions of Hollywood science fiction creations with claw-type appendages, traveling back and forth on wheeled feet and responding to commands with a monotone, synthesized voice. Construction robots in Japan do not fit this image. In fact most of them look like ordinary, recognizable pieces of equipment that have been slightly modified to fit their unmanned tasks.
