Marketing-Domestically and Overseas

Marketing is more than merely selling. To be effective, it is necessary to be creative. There is an old story about a cannery in Alaska that was offered several truckloads of salmon at cut-rate prices. These salmon, for some reason, had very whitish meat and since most people were accustomed to buying pink salmon, the fisherman was having a difficult time selling his catch. The owner of this particular cannery was very enterprising and he bought the entire shipment at rock bottom prices. Several months later the fisherman stopped by to inquire about the sale of the off-color fish. The cannery owner said, “Great—in fact fantastic! We had labels for the can printed—‘Sockeye Salmon—Guaranteed Not To Turn Pink in the Can.’” Now that’s marketing!
