Gold ordinarily carries 10–15 percent silver in solid solution, and a complete series extends through aurian silver to pure silver. Gold may also contain copper, iron and more rarely, bismuth, tin, lead, platinum, palladium, or iridium. Electrum is a varietal name commonly used to describe gold with a relatively high silver content.
