Spot Welding

Until recently, the use of robots for spot welding dominated the field. According to the Robot Industries Association, 1500 robots, or 36% of the 1981 U.S. robot population were involved in spot welding. Virtually every major manufacturer of automobiles and trucks in the world uses robots for spot welding, with advantages including uniformity of spot location and weld integrity. This percentage has dropped considerably in recent years, with the increased use of robots for assembly and other application. However, the number of robots being used for spot welding is still increasing in absolute numbers.
