Components: Graphical Representation
Just as real construction projects are built from bought-in components and elements constructed on site, so computer models are built from CAD components. This chapter deals with the graphical definition of various kinds of these. Apart from fully pre-defined components, the concepts of component hierarchies and of variable components are explained. The latter can have one or several dimensions left undefined at the time when the component is created, and this functions as a shorthand method of dealing with families of similar — but not identical — items. The programmable component is a more sophisticated concept, and this allows for an element of automatic design or selection of components for particular circumstances.
