Well maintained and properly operated equipment will produce quality product at targeted costs. However, if equipment is not cared for, problems begin to arise with meeting schedules, pro­ducing acceptable product, and overrunning costs, not to men­tion adverse employee and supervisory attitudes. Then it seems that the harder one pushes, the greater the problems. What hap­pens is that when early symptoms of poor maintenance are over­looked, a “disease” develops.
