Benjamin Franklin’s “Perfect Invention”

On a sultry day in June, 1752, 46-year-old editor and publisher Benjamin Franklin, with his 20-year-old son, Thomas Folger, went into a field near Philadelphia and lofted a kite into the sky. Franklin let out the string to come as close as he could to the scudding thunderclouds.
