Managing a Successful Materials/Logistics Management Operation

During the past decade, materials/logistics managers have made considerable progress in the coordination and integration of their activities into the mainstream of the organization’s total operation. During this period, materials/logistics management has been recognized by other management groups as a vital part of an efficient and successful operation, not just something that can be considered as an afterthought. Materials/logistics managers still must take an aggressive role in making both these groups and top management recognize the importance of M/L management. There are many stories and situations, especially in the implementation and development of new production processes and new highly technical products, where disastrous results have occurred because M/L management was not involved in the initial planning stage of the projects.
