Bestowing Glory in Lafayette

  • M. Dane Picard

The best part of the morning paper, the sports section, isn’t the same in a strange town. The columnists aren’t the same, teams differ, and the scores aren’t arranged in the same way. Breakfast in unfamiliar surroundings — I’ll call the town Lafayette — seems not to be quite right either. The cantaloupe is green, the poached eggs mobile and fluffy, the tea scalding and, later, cold and too strong. The August heat and humidity begin early in the morning in Lafayette.
