After grinding the flank surface, determining the accuracy of the ground surface may be desirable to modify the grinding process. Also, to reproduce a given point configuration, the flank surfaces need to be measured to obtain the required grinding parameters. An apparatus named the “drill analyzer” has been built at the University of Wisconsin-Madison to achieve this. It can automatically measure the flank geometry and yields desired results with the aid of a computer (microprocessor).
