Methods of the Current Study
My students and I began planning for the current study some years ago at the stage identified in Chapter 1 when there were virtually no published direct interview studies of children of depressed parents. Only a handful each of indirect studies of unipolar and bipolar families existed, and these were greatly limited in scope and conclusions. All of the existing research indicated a clear need for additional study because of the apparent high rate of risk to children for psychopathology.
