A validity generalization random model of the form widely used was defined in Equation (2.3.1) as R = P + E; R, P, and E are all random variables; they take on values r, ρ, and e. R is an observed correlation coefficient; P is a latent variable of population correlation coefficients, and E is a latent error variable. P may be viewed as a product of other latent variables that influence testing situations.
