Heterocyclic compounds with one heteroatom in the ring
Heterocyclic compounds occupy nearly the first place among the other classes of organic compounds with respect to variety of biological activity. Within the ranks of the heterocyclic compounds with one heteroatom in the ring are found substances with various pesticidal properties (insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, growth stimulators and inhibitors, nematicides, insect repellents, etc.). Among the heterocyclic compounds also are some alkaloids that are used in agriculture as pesticides. These include nicotine and anabasine, which show strong insecticidal properties.
