The Chemical Formula and its Arithmetic
Let us start by interpreting as many as possible of the points of information that a formula contrives to register in terms of weight or volume, remembering that every formula is in itself a revelation of the laws of quantitative composition. And, as such, its representation of a specific substance must rest solidly upon an experimental foundation. What, then, does a formula tell us about experimental facts? We enumerate the more obvious.
