Abstract

The structural analysis of human renin’s active site is a critical component to understanding the enzyme’s exquisite specificity. Broad interest in the molecular basis of substrate recognition by renin is due in large part to its pivotal role in blood pressure regulation. It is assumed that a precise elucidation of renin-inhibitor complexes will guide the design of novel agents representing a new generation of antihypertensive drugs.
