Mode of Action of Neurotransmitters on Depolarized Smooth Muscle

Abstract

That neurotransmitters could evoke tension changes of depolarized, electrically inexcitable smooth muscle was observed by Evans, Schild, and Thesleff (1958), an example of what was subsequently termed pharmaco-mechanical coupling by Somlyo and Somlyo (1968).
