In 1923, P. Debye1 and E. Hückel introduced screening in order to study concentration effects on the structure of ionic aqueous solutions. This concept is very usefull in general, to account for long range effects. It was used in particular by S.F. Edwards2 in order to determine the structure of neutral polymer solutions at finite concentrations.
