Seasonal Patterns of Births and Conception Throughout the World

Seasonal patterns of births in human populations were first described in the 19th century for the populations of Europe (Villerme, 1831; Quetelet, 1869), and India (Hill, 1888). Earlier in this century, Gini (1912), Huntington (1938) and later Cowgill (1966a, 1966b) documented seasonal patterns in much of the world; since then a large number of studies have been done and a seasonal pattern has been observed virtually everywhere researchers have looked.
