Concomitant Inhibition of VLDL Triglyceride and Apoprotein Secretion by Hepatocytes of Rats Adapted to a High-Fat Diet

Hepatic VLDL synthesis and secretion is under nutritional control, being increased 2-fold by a sucrose-rich diet. Conversely, it is decreased 2-fold by a high-fat diet (1,2), despite the fact that fat-fed rats have elevated plasma non esterified fatty acids (3), which are generally considered a stimulatory factor of hepatic VLDL production. The aim of this study was to investigate whether hepatic VLDL apoprotein (apo) secretion was also decreased by fat-feeding in the rat.
