Abstract

Optic and electro-optic technologies are being developed in all the industrialized countries, because they are one of the most interesting technological fields from both a scientific and an economical standpoint. They have a number of different applications, including many of great strategical importance, such as: informatics, robotics, microelectronics, telecommunications, advanced materials, mechanical processing (welding, cutting, drilling, surface treatments, non-metallic materials working), industrial and environmental control and biochemistry.
