Abstract
Sulfur-centered radicals are involved in coal and oil chemistry and play important roles in atmospheric and biological processes and yet very little kinetic information is available that describes these reactions in any detail. Figure 1 shows a bar chart that describes the state of the literature in 1984 and shows the amount of space dedicated to the kinetics of radical processes in the comprehensive Landolt-Börnstein compendium.1 It is quite clear that there is very little information on sulfur centered radicals as compared with their carbon and oxygen-centered analogues and one must wonder why this is the case.
