Superconductors for Accelerators and Detectors
Keystoned Rutherford type cables with NbTi and Nb3Sn bronze route strands for beam line magnets were produced by Vacuumschmelze GmbH (VAC) in large production quantities as well as Al stabilized conductors for detector solenoids. The results of the production of 120 km of the HERA quadrupole cable will be shown. For LHC different kind of keystoned cable were delivered both with NbTi for the 1,8 K operating temperature regime and Nb3Sn bronze route for operating at 4,2 K. Four 1 m model magnets were successfully tested. Detector magnets usually are built with AL stabilized conductors to allow sufficient radiation transparency. The large scale production of superconductors made by coextrusion for the projects ALEPH, CLEO II and H1 will be summarized.
