Abstract
No one would dispute that American business environments are increasingly turbulent (Portwood & Eichinger, 1986; Ulrich & Wiersema, 1989; Ulrich, 1987; Tichy & Barnett, 1985; Sears, 1984; Gilbin, 1984). Globalization, shifts in public policy, changing demographic mix of labor pool, shifting customer demands, accelerating technological changes, emergence of new societal values, organizational structures, and corporate cultures, etc. have affected American businesses. All business segments have been affected ranging from smokestack America to relatively new hi-tech companies, from huge corporations to small ventures.
