Abstract
The perception of risk is affected by demographic biases. This paper studies how those biases have caused segments of the population of two countries to perceive risk associated with contemporary technologies. Portugal and the United States are both western but culturally different. A questionnaire was distributed to college-level business students (mostly graduate students) at universities in Lisbon and New York. Statistical results show similarities and differences between the Portugal sample and the American sample. What was consistent in both countries was the way the sexes differed in their perception of risk.
