Studies on Equine Leucoencephalomalacia

Abstract

Fusarium moniliforme is a fungus which occurs frequently on corn prior to harvest and during storage. A study conducted in Maryland in 1985 revealed that some 40–50% of surface disinfected corn obtained from three locations in Maryland contained Fusarium moniliforme (Trofa and Bean, 1987). However, the importance of F. moniliforme as a toxigenic fungus is often diminished because of the lack of knowledge of toxin production by the fungus.
