Survival of Aspergillus Flavus Conidia in Soil
Aflatoxin is a highly potent carcinogen and toxin produced by the fungi Aspergillus flavus Link ex Fr. and A. parasiticus Speare. Aspergillus flavus is occasionally found to infect corn (Zea mays L.) with the subsequent production of high levels of aflatoxin. Evidence within the last decade has shown that corn is often infected with A. flavus prior to harvest (Lillehoj et al., 1976; McMillian et al., 1985; Wilson et al., 1979; Zuber et al., 1976).
