Dextran Coated Glass Slides as a Model for Cell Surface Interactions with Aqueous Two Phase Polymer Systems

Abstract

The significance of the external cell surface as a major determinant of cell partition behaviour is well established. Since the carbohydrate-rich glycocalyx is the site of many of the cell’s primary interactions with its environment, glycocalyx structure and composition are important. Unfortunately, little is known about the physical structure of the glycocalyx such as its depth, density and mass distribution throughout the region.
