Psychiatric Disorders and Differences in Muscular Pattern

Abstract

In four previous research projects1-5 we have shown that psychiatric patients have far more muscular deviations than non-patient controls. We have further found that psychotic patients have more “restricted” and less too “loose” movements than neurotic and substance abusing patients (the restricted movements were too inhibited and rigid, whereas the too loose movements were enlarged and too compliant). Finally we have found that borderline patients are more indifferent to pain at muscular palpation than other psychiatric patients.
