Abstract

There is a large and growing body of evidence implicating psychological and social factors in the aetiology of coronary heart disease. By contrast the evidence linking acute psychological stress to heart attack and subsequent cardiac death is by necessity more limited. It is based mainly on animal experiments, unusual case reports and retrospective case-control investigations1,2.
