Abstract
Throughout this book we have emphasized the influence of the environment on the development of the individual head and neck network demonstration projects. We demonstrated in Chapter 3 how hospitals in these networks established agendas and how their participation was influenced by these agendas. Two types of participating hospitals were identified. Academic medical centers sought new sources of patients for research and training and to estbablish themselves as regional cancer centers. Community medical centers sought to establish oncology programs that would attract young oncologists and their patients.
