The behavioral and neurological effects of benzodiazepines (BZD) are mediated through high affinity, stereoselective recognition sites which allosterically modulate the probability that γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) mediates Cl channel opening at GABAA receptors (Costa and Guidotti, 1979).
