Abstract

SV40 and Polyomavirus belong to the papova family. The term papova in an acronym of Papilloma (wart) viruses of humans and rabbits, Polyomavirus of mice and Vacuolating agent (SV40) of rhesus monkeys (1). The main properties shared by the papova viruses are the double-strandness of their DNA genome surrounded by an icosahedral capsid, and the nucleus of the host cell as the site of multiplication.
