Switch T Cell Line, ST, Induces an Ig Class Switch in Surface Isotype
We have previously demonstrated that T cells, Trac, isolated from a patient with Sezary’s/mycosis fungoides was capable of inducing an Ig class switch in B cells derived from patients with immunodeficiency and hyper-IgM (1,2). Previously, it had been postulated that the defect in these patients was intrinsic to the B cell, being incapable of switching from p to y or a (3,4). However, we have now studied 13 such patients with 11 able to secrete IgG alone or in conjunction with IgA, in the presence of Trac and pokeweed mitogen (2). Despite these findings, two major areas remain to be elucidated: (a) the mechanism of T cell induction of the class switch and (b) determination of the normal counterpart of the malignant Trac cell.
