Regulation of the UDP-Glucose Group Translocator by Some Cytoplasmic Components

Sucrose is transferred into vacuoles from sugarcane cells via a tonoplastbound UDP-glucose-dependent group translocation mechanism (Thom and Maretzki, 1985). The group translocator has been postulated to consist of a cluster of at least five enzymes that synthesizes both hexose moieties of sucrose from cytoplasmic UDP-glucose and transfers sucrose-P into the vacuole.
