Abstract

Somatostatin (SRIF), a tetradecapeptide initially isolated from the hypothalamus and characterized for its ability to inhibit the secretion of growth hormone, regulates the secretion of a variety of hormones from tissues including the pituitary, pancreas and intestine (1–4).
