Voltage-Gated Ca Current in Pancreatic Islet β -Cells

Glucose induces rhythmic bursts of electrical spiking in mouse pancreatic islet β-cells.Several groups have shown that the spikes are dependent on extracellular Ca and are blocked by Ca channel blockers5,6.This electrical activity is believed to mediate Ca uptake necessary for insulin secretion1,8.In order to study the underlying Ca spike conductances, we used the whole-cell recording technique of Hamill et al.4.
