Energetic Consequence of Dynamic Enzyme-Enzyme Interaction

In contrast to the widely accepted concept that macromolecular components within the cytoplasm are freely dissolved, more and more evidence suggests that proteins associate with each other or with various membranous and particulate components of the cell (e.g., Keleti et al., 1977; Welch, 1977; Masters, 1981; Friedrich, 1984, 1985; Keleti et al., 1985; Srivastava and Bernhard 1985a; Ureta, 1985; and references cited therein). Moreover, the intracellular distribution of enzymes may not be a time-invariant property but may vary with the metabolic status of the cell (Keleti and Welch, 1984).
