Sulfolipid Synthesis by Isolated Intact Spinach Chloroplasts

Abstract

Isolated intact chloroplasts are able to incorporate, under illumination, \( ^{35} {\text{SO}}_4^{2 - } \) into sulfoquinovosyldiacylglycerol (SQDG)1,2. However, up to now the origin of the diacylglycerol (DG) used to form SQDG was not clearly established. The purpose of this article is to determine whether DG molecules actively synthesized through the plastid Kornberg-Pricer pathway3,4 can be incorporated into SQDG.
