Expectations in the Study on Growth Regulation of Thyroid Epithelial Cells in Vitro
The life cycle of an individual cell is known to be composed of a mitotic (M) phase, a DNA synthetic (S) phase, and two gaps between M and S, which we denoted G1 and G2. Recent studies indicated that proliferation of normal cultured cells is under the control of exogenous growth factors, and in the absence of the proper growth factors, the cells become arrested in the G1 phase. Serum added to the culture medium is considered to be a source of growth factors.
