In developing countries, where the majority of the world population lives, women who already live in low socioeconomic conditions are the main victims of unregulated fertility. This lack of fertility control leads to poor health, complications in pregnancy and childbirth, general malnutrition and infection and causes an increase in maternal and perinatal mortality. Family planning has a crucial role to play in preventing unnecessary mortality.
